Pforzheim is taking steps toward the future of carbon-emission-free public transport with its ambitious decarbonization concept. By transitioning from conventional gas-powered buses to emission-free alternatives, the city aims to reduce noise and air pollution while making public transport more attractive.
This webinar will showcase how advanced PTV software solutions were used to model and evaluate the use of alternative powertrains. From calculating the precise electricity consumption of each vehicle journey segment to optimizing the deployment of the entire fleet for these new technologies, the analysis reveals which technology is best suited for the city of Pforzheim and what consequences arise from the transition from gas-powered to electric buses.

The session will be presented by M.Sc. Valentin Hecht, an expert in transportation systems modeling and project manager at TTK. He has been deeply involved in applying PTV software to simulate and conceptualize the transition from combustion engines to electric buses.
Join us to gain insights into:

  • The calculation of power consumption for buses in a topographically challenging area using PTV Visum and a custom Python-based add-on.
  • The role of PTV Visum in assessing the impact of electric buses on vehicle circulation planning.
  • Key findings from Pforzheim’s case study that can inspire solutions for other global cities facing congestion and accessibility challenges.
