This presentation will provide an overview of the development and application of a dynamic traffic management model using PTV Vissim. The model was created to assess the management of the areas around Mid Stay, Temporary Drop Off Zone (TDOZ), and Car Park 1 (CP1) at Luton Airport, as part of the TDOZ's introduction into operation.

The presentation will detail the approach taken to build the VISSIM model, including the integration of various simulation features and techniques to address its complexities. The model incorporates a diverse array of vehicle types and purposes, such as private cars (picking up or dropping off passengers), taxis, and buses, as well as pedestrians navigating to and from the terminal and pick-up/drop-off areas. This ensures a realistic simulation of the traffic patterns and interactions within the airport.

Signal timings were optimised using External Signal Controllers, which allowed for precise adjustments to traffic signals based on real-time conditions. Additionally, the model employed a combination of Vehicle Routes, User-Defined Attributes, and Event-Based Scripts to accurately define and manage the dynamic routes of both pedestrians and vehicles.

By exploring these methodologies and their implementation, the presentation aims to provide valuable insights into PTV Vissim solutions, demonstrating how advanced simulation tools can be leveraged to model traffic conditions and assess the operational efficiency of complex networks.
